Black Soap and the Hammam Ritual

At the heart of Moroccan tradition, Beldi black soap is the essential ally for soft, radiant skin.

Black Soap and the Hammam Ritual

The hammam is far more than a bath: it is a moment of sharing, care, and purification that has shaped Moroccan life for centuries.

What is black soap?

Black soap, or Beldi, is a smooth paste made from crushed black olives macerated in potash. Its deep color and unique texture make it a natural cleansing and exfoliating treatment.

The ritual step by step

  1. Settle into a warm, humid room for 10 minutes to open the pores.
  2. Apply the black soap all over the body in circular motions.
  3. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
  4. Rinse with lukewarm water, then exfoliate with a kessa glove.
  5. Finish with a plant-based oil to nourish the skin.

The result: smooth, soft, glowing skin, just like after a session in an authentic Marrakech hammam.
