Pottery & ceramics

From hand-painted vases to beldi cups whose base is left as bare terracotta, this selection brings together pieces shaped and decorated one at a time: glazed Tamegroute pottery, tagines and vases from Safi, full tea sets, dishes, sculptural candle holders and zellige-patterned coasters. Every piece being painted by hand, patterns and glaze tones vary slightly.

Ceramic Tealight Holder with Fez — Smiling Face
Pottery & ceramicsFrom80,00 MAD

Ceramic Tealight Holder with Fez — Smiling Face

Glazed ceramic tealight holder shaped as a round smiling face, topped with a removable bright red fez. Place a small candle inside and the light escapes through the cut-out eyes and smile. Three colours to choose from — white, yellow, black — each wearing the same red fez. Handmade pottery: the crackle of the glaze and the shade of colour vary from one piece to the next.

Dented Hand-Painted Ceramic Tumbler
Pottery & ceramics40,00 MAD

Dented Hand-Painted Ceramic Tumbler

A handleless tumbler, built and glazed by hand, with a deliberately dented wall: the shape is never perfectly round and the rim waves a little. White glaze over the whole piece, inside included, then a motif painted with a brush — hearts, palm trees, cacti, suns, chevrons, Berber diamonds, lines and dots, in black or in colour. Each tumbler is painted one at a time: the strokes and proportions vary from one piece to the next. The photographs show the range of motifs; tumblers are sold individually.

Glazed Terracotta Cup and Saucer — Ring Handle
Pottery & ceramics50,00 MAD

Glazed Terracotta Cup and Saucer — Ring Handle

A cup and its saucer in glazed terracotta, shaped and glazed by hand. The glaze covers the upper part of the cup and stops short above the foot, leaving the raw clay bare; the saucer is dipped at an angle, one half glazed, the other left plain. The handle is a round ring attached by hand. Eleven colours: blue, navy, grey-blue, green, red, burgundy, plum, orange, mustard, black and ecru. Each piece is dipped by hand, so the dividing line and the depth of colour vary from one cup to the next.

Hand-Painted Moroccan Tagine — Contemporary Patterns
Pottery & ceramicsFrom140,00 MAD

Hand-Painted Moroccan Tagine — Contemporary Patterns

Hand-painted ceramic tagine in the Moroccan pottery tradition: a decorated cone resting on its matching dish, with a glazed knob on top. Six contemporary patterns to choose from — olive branches, colour strokes, anise-green chevrons, Berber mosaic, abstract garden, stylised face — a change from the usual motifs. Each piece is painted freehand, so the lines and shades vary from one to the next: yours will be one of a kind. A decorative and display piece, not intended for cooking.

Arch ceramic vase — Berber symbols

Arch vase in ceramic with a modern curved form, pairing an iced blue-white glaze with one side left as natural clay. Hand-drawn Berber symbols (tribal motifs and henna signs) tell of Moroccan craft. A one-off piece shaped and painted by hand, to stand alone as a sculpture.

Pottery & ceramics270,00 MAD

Hand-painted arch ceramic vase — plant motif

Arch vase in ceramic with a contemporary curved silhouette, entirely hand-painted with a plant design of reeds and flowers on a pearly white ground heightened with green. Glossy glaze, a one-off piece turned and decorated by Moroccan craftspeople. A decorative object in its own right, as elegant empty as with a dried stem.

Hand-modelled and hand-glazed ceramic candle holder with organic curves and a deep emerald green glaze revealing the terracotta at the base. About Pottery & ceramics

Two traditions meet here. Tamegroute pottery, from the Draa valley, is recognisable by its terracotta body under a running glaze that lets the clay show through in places. Safi pottery, on the Atlantic coast, is more graphic: brush-painted decoration, geometric and floral motifs on a pale ground. To these are added contemporary hand-modelled pieces — arch vases, hourglass vases, candle holders with organic curves — glazed in deep tones. The beldi cup is the best way in if you are new to Moroccan ceramics: small format, a glazed rim line, the base left in bare terracotta. Full tea sets — pot, glasses and tray — suit a gift better. For vases, the height given on the page determines the stem they can carry; multi-necked models are best with few flowers. One precaution applies across the category: these pieces are sold as decorative objects and for occasional serving. Traditional glazes are not intended for the dishwasher, the microwave or prolonged contact with acidic food. Wash by hand in warm water and dry at once. Avoid sudden temperature changes: pouring a boiling liquid into a cold piece can crack the glaze. Irregularities are part of the product, not defects: bubbles in the glaze, deliberate crazing, varying thickness, a slightly oval rim on a turned piece. The photograph shows the example that was photographed; the one you receive will be close to it without being identical. Pieces are wrapped individually, but ceramic remains fragile: tell us about any damage you find on delivery.
